CBSE to hold proficiency exams for Class X students
New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to hold special examinations for students of class X in May-June this year to help them determine their interest and proficiency in various subjects, a senior official has said.
The purpose of the examination will be to help the students to decide which subjects they should take up in class XI and XII, CBSE Chairman Mr Vineet Joshi said.
The examinations will determine which subjects the students are interested in and how much knowledge they have about them, he said, adding, the exams will help the students to decide which subjects they should take up next year.
A 100 marks, two-and-half hour exam will be held for every subject and questions will be based on the syllabi of classes IX and X.
The questions will be objective and the students will be given multiple choice to select their answers. However, there will be negative marking for wrong answers, Mr Joshi said.

Introduction of English subject as Second Language from 1st Class in the Govt.Schools in AP from the Academic year 2011-2012
Government of Andhra Pradesh introduction of English subject as Second Language from 1st Class from the Academic Year 2011-2012 based on the report of Regional Institute of English, South India, Bangalore.
Report Says like this :
The Regional Institute of English, South India, Bangalore has submitted its report on the present position of English and its importance of School Education level for introduction of English Language from class 1 level English plays an effective role imparting academic knowledge to the young children and helpful in higher learning of later stage. The level of introduction of English is now a matter of greatconcern in view of introduction of English as medium of instructions in majority that the parents and community members aspiring for English to be introduced from class I (One) onwards. It is observed throu field monitoring that mostly in rural areas parents are withdrawing their childrem from Government Telugu medium Schools due to lack of English teaching in schools. At present English as a subject is being implemented in the State from class III onwards. The Regional Institute of English south India Bangalore, has recommended for the introduction of English Language from class 1 itself i.e., without making it burden for the Children learn language most effectively in the early years. Therefore it will be effective if English language is introduced from class I (One) onwards.
Government suggestions as follows :
- Introduction of English as a subject from Class I onwards.
- Development of effective textbooks from class I to V reflecting constructivist as recommended by National Curriculum Frame work 2005 and effectively adopted and improved by Kerala and other states.
- Development of Texbooks in co-ordination with Regional Institute of English South India, Bangalore duly involving Prof.Jai Rajan & Prof. Anandan who are continuously involved in capacity building of resource groups in A.P.
- Development of appropriate reading material and learning cards for effective English Language acquistion.
- Strengthening of Existing ELTCs in all DIETs and development of district wise resource groups in collaboration with RIE and SCERT,A.P.
- Planning appropriate strategies for the professional development of teachers and for on job support.
